My Favourite Female Power Ballads
Sometimes, nothing beats singing along to a good old ballad. Here are just a few:
Adele's 2011 "Someone Like You" a favourite of mine :)
Mariah Carey's "Without You" was originally written by British rock group Badfinger in 1970 but Mariah made it her own in 1993.
"I will Always Love You" was originally a huge hit for Dolly Parton in 1974 and was written as a farewell to her one-time partner and mentor Porter Wagoner after he decided to pursue a solo career. Whitney Houston recorded her version in 1992 for the film "The Bodyguard". It spent 14 weeks at number one making it the best-selling single of all time.
Originally written by Prince, Sinead O'Connor had a huge hit with "Nothing Compares 2 U" in 1990
Black Velvet sung by Canadian singer/songwriter Alannah Myles was released in 1989. The song is referring to Elvis Presley's life.
Swedish band Roxette had a huge hit with "Listen to your Heart" in 1988
"China in Your Hand" sung by Carol Decker from T'Pau in 1987 refer to Frankenstein and it's author Mary Shelley (who is buried in St Peter's in Bournemouth).
American rock band, Heart released "Alone" in 1980
Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and was released in 1983
Patti Smith's "Because of the Night" was released in 1978 and must be played loud
