Happy Birthday Billy Happy Birthday to William Michael Albert Broad, better known as Billy Idol, who is 64 today.  Billy first found fame in the 1970s punk era as a member of Generation X.  He then went onto a successful solo career with songs such as "Rebel Yell", "Eyes without a Face" and "White Wedding". with David Bowie "Rebel Yell" - one of my favourites to run along to :)

Bournemouth University Vice-Chancellor's Staff Awards Well done to the BUIT Service Desk Team for being shortlisted for an Award this evening.  Sadly we didn't win but it was a fun night nevertheless.

Tragic Hollywood Blondes The famous saying that "blondes have more fun" certainly seems true when it comes to Hollywood.   However, there have been a few for which this was not the case: 1930's Hollywood starlet, Thelma Todd was known as the "Ice Cream Blonde" and appeared in 120 feature films between 1926 and 1935.  Thelma died at the age of 29 in a car parked inside the garage of her lover's ex-wife. Jean Harlow was known as the first blonde bombshell after starring in the 1933 film "Bombshell".  She died of kidney failure at the age of 26.  Dorothy Comingore starred in "Citizen Kane".  The role was based on Marion Davies, mistress to a newspaper mogul called William Randolph Hearst.  She became the victim of a smear campaign by Hearst.   She was put on a communist watch list, arrested for prostitution and eventually lost custody of her children due to an alleged drinking problem.  In 1951 she was blacklisted i

Horse Sand Fort If you fancy a resdes with water frontage, Horse Sand Fort, located between Southsea and the Isle of Wight is up for sale at £700,000. One of 3 sea forts built between 1865 and 1880 to keep the French at bay, they were also used in the Second World War to protect Portsmouth Docks. The two other forts, No Mans and Spitbank, have been converted into wedding and weekend venues but this one remains untouched.
