The South Remembers D-Day
The largest cruise ship to visit Poole Harbour, MV Boudicca left Poole today as part of the D-Day veterans eight-day voyage of remembrance. The youngest veteran on board was 92 years old.
Poole played a significant role in D-Day as an embarkation point as well as the disastrous rehearsal that took place on Studland Beach on the 4th April 1944 when six British soldiers died when their amphibious tank sank.
The veterans then sailed onto to Portsmouth for the main commemorative event before sailing over to Normandy this afternoon.
