Happy Birthday Mini

On this day in 1959, Alec Issigonis introduced the Morris Mini-Minor.  The little car came about due to the fuel shortage caused by the 1956 Suez Crisis which caused the rationing of petrol.  


Mini is now the second-most produced car in the UK and is still assembled at the same site in Oxford where it all first started.  More than 3,000,000 minis have been produced since its BMW relaunch in 2001.
