On this Day ..................... Happy Birthday to one of my favourite actresses, the very talented, Drew Blyth Barrymore.  Born in Culver City, California in 1975 into a family already famous on stage and cinema screen, she is the granddaughter of film legend John Barrymore. Following a turbulent childhood battling drug and alcohol abuse, Drew is now a highly successful actress, screenwriter, film director\producer, model and author.   Andy Warhol died this day in New York aged 58 in 1987 following surgery on his gallbladder.   World famous for his pop art, his works explored the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture and advertisement of the 1960s. His works are highly collectable now.  The highest price paid for one of his paintings is $105 million for a 1963 canvas entitled "Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster)". He was also involved in the music industry and adopted the banks The Velvet Underground in the mid-1960...

Born on this Day Lee Marvin was born in New York City this day in 1924.   Best known for his gravelly voice and white hair, he appeared in 70 films between 1951 and 1986 in films such as Hell in the Pacific (1968), The Dirty Dozen (1967) and was awarded an Oscar for his performance in Cat Ballou. One of my favourites has to be Paint Your Wagon (1969) in which he sings "Wand'rin Star". He died in 1987 in Tucson, Arizona.

Born and raised in New York, he is regarded as the father of the digital art movement and even taught Andy Warhol how to use an Amiga computer.

Did you know that the Tiger Moth filmed in The Monuments Men is the one that is based at Compton Abbas Airfield?  Last year, Crazy Dazy and I went for a cruise in her Smart car and stopped at the airfield for a coffee just in time to see the plane take off - really was quite something to see. http://www.comptonabbasairfield.co.uk
