10 Actresses who started as Models


Marilyn Monroe was working at a munitions factory in 1945 when she was discovered by photographer David Conniver who was photographing females working for the war effort.  In August 1946, Marilyn went for a screen test at 20th Century Fox and the rest is history.



Jane Fonda started off as a model and was featured on the cover of Vogue Magazine.


Lauren Hutton has appeared on the cover of Vogue Magazine 41 times and in 1973 signed a contract with revlon worth $250,000 a year for 20 days work which lasted for 10 years.  Lauren starred in a number of films such as American Gigolo (1980) and Someone's Watching Me (1978).


Cybill Shepherd featured on the cover for Glamour, Vogue and Brides in the late 1960s and early 70s.  Cybill went on to star in films such as Taxi Driver (1974), Moonlighting (1985-89) and Cybill (1995-98).


In 1997 Sharon Stone was signed up by Ford Modelling Agency.   Sharon then decided to pursue an acting career and her first successful screening was starring opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1980s sci-fi Total Recall and then went onto to receive international recognition starring in the erotic thriller Basic Instinct.




Angelina Jolie started her career modelling clothes for Look Magazine, Debenhams and Miss Selfridge at the age of 18.   Angelina went on to making her acting debut in 1993 with the lead role in Cyborg 2.


Andie McDowell was signed up by Elite Model Agency and appeared in Vogue as well as appearing in Calvin Klein and Yves Saint-Laurent ads.  Andie went on to star in films such as St Elmo's Fire (1985), Groundhog Day (1993) and the superb Four Weddings & a Funeral (1994).


Italian actress, Monica Bellucci, began modelling at the age of 13.  In 1988, Monica was signed up with Elite Model Agency in Milan and has modelled for the likes of D&G, French Elle and Esquire.  Monica has starred in a number of films and at 50 has become the oldest Bond Girls playing Lucia Sciarra in Spectre.



Cameron Diaz was signed up by Elite Modelling Agency at the age of 16 and went on to model for Calvin Klein, Levi's, Seventeen Magazine and Coco-Cola (Sydney).  At 21, Cameron starred in The Mask which went on to become one of the top ten highest grossing films in 1994 and hasn't looked back starring in a string of successful films.




Lily Cole's modelling career started when she was 14 and at 16 was on the front cover of British Vogue.   Lily has worked with the likes of Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs.  In 2007, Lily made her acting debut starring in the 2007 comedy St Trinian's.
