Famous Greek Women

Inspired by my hols, I thought it would be nice to list a few famous Greek Women;

Melina Mercuri (31/10/1920 - 6/3/1994) was an actress, singer and politician who received an Oscar nomination for the 1960s film Never on a Sunday.  Melina also nominated for 3 Golden Globes and 2 BAFTAs.

Maria Callas (2/12/1923 - 16/9/1977), one of the most renowned opera singers of the 20th Century

Tzeni Karezi (12/1/1932 - 27/6/1992) was an actress who starred in a number of films in the 1960s.

Aliki Vougiouklaki (20/6/1934 - 23/7/1996), was one of the most popular actresses in Greece and was give the title of the National Star of Greece.

Zoe Laskari (12/12/1942 - 18/8/2017) - former beauty queen and screen star of the 1960s.

Irene Papas - retired international actress who has starred in over 70 films which included The Guns of Navarone and Zorba the Greek.

Christina Onassis (11/12/1950 - 19/11/1988) was the heiress to the Onassis shipping empire.

Tonia Sotiropoulos has starred in Skyfall.

Anna Vissi is a singer/songwriter, actress, TV and radio presenter.
