Vintage Jeans

Vintage jeans are becoming highly collectable.   Levi's are the most desirable, with the highest valued pairs being produced in the 1950s and 60s and are distinguished by a red tab logo stitched into them.  A "LEVI'S" logo - jeans known as "Capital Es" were stitched on both sides in a red tab until 1971 when the logo lost the capitals and was rebranded as "Levi's".

In 2001, Levi Strauss purchased a pair of jeans from the late 1870s for $46,532.  An early pair of 501s can fetch £500 with ripped examples fetching over £300.  Makes such as Wrangler and Lee can fetch over £200.

Hollywood in the 1950s made jeans fashionable to wear with the likes of Marlon Brando and James Dean making them cool to be seen in.  Up until then, they were regarded as workwear for the likes of cowboys etc.
