Palm Springs Modernism

Last Friday (26th), the great mid-century modern architect, Donald Wexler, died aged 89.  His work was predominantly in the Palm Spring, California area and he is known for being a pioneer in the use of steel and glass in residential designs.  Leonardo DiCaprio bought one a home he designed in 1964 for Dinah Soprano for $5.2 million.

Every February, Palm Springs, holds the 10-day Modernism Week which showcases the architecture, art, music, lifestyle to thousands of visitors of the 50s and 60s.  The locals also participate by arranging for classic cars to be displayed at their open houses.  If you fancy visiting next year, it runs from 11th - 21st February http://www.modernismweek.com
