Elizabeth "Bettie" Threatt


The stunning, Elizabeth "Bettie" Threatt, was born April 12th 1926 in South Carolina.  Her father was a Cherokee Indian who worked for the US army.

In 1943 after graduating school, Elizabeth took herself to New work and was signed up to the John Powers Agency where she became one of the most sought after models in the USA earning $900 a week.

In 1949, Bettie broke her hip when her husband at the time, Louis Cushed, threw her out of a moving car which left her hospitalised for almost a year.   When she returned to work, Elizabeth found that she was unable to stand for long periods of time and looked to acting as an alternative career.

Bettie only ever starred in one movie, "The Big Sky" with Kirk Douglas (who she dated for a short while) and Dewey Martin.  Although Bettie received good reviews, she was shortly dropped by RKO and returned to modelling.




In 1956, she married a millionaire French viscount, Antoine Marie Francois de Contendas but divorced in 1963.   Bettie died in South Carolina on the 22nd November 1993.
