Joe Strummer
Joe Strummer, front man and co-founder of The Clash died this day in 2002. Born on Augsut 21st, 1952 in Ankara, Turkey, he was the son of a British diplomat and grew up in several countries before setting in London in 1959.
The Clash was formed in 1976 and were part of the original British punk scene. Their third album, London Calling, which was released in December 1979 and brought them to the attention of the United States was declared by Rolling Stone Magazine as the best album of the 1980s.
In January 2003 the band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in 2004, Rolling Stone ranked them 28th in their list of the 100 greatest artists of all time.
