Mondrian
Pieter Mondrian was a Dutch painter who in the 1930s was famous for painting a grid of vertical and horizontal black lines on a white background and only using three primary colours. In the 1960s, Yves St Laurent used Mondrian's design in his collection and the fashion houses have run with it with ever since. This year, Balmain used Mondrianesque stripes in their Spring collection.
