Remembering Madame Carven
French couturier, Madame Carven, died on Monday at the age of 105. Being only 5'1", Madame Carven wanted to make haute couture outfits to fit petit women. She was famous for taking her collections around the world and staged shows in Egypt, Thailand, Morocco and South America.
When Gone with the Wind premiered in France in 1950, 11 years after its release in the USA, Madame Carven designed a collection of crinoline dresses and toured France staging fashion shows.
In 1954, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the liberation of Paris, she dropped samples of her perfume, Ma Griffe ,tied to small green and white parachutes over the city.
