Carmen Miranda



Carmen Miranda was born this day in 1909 in Portugal.   She went on to become a Brazilian samba singer, dancer, Broadway actress and film star during the 1930s to the 1950s.

In 1940, Carmen was voted the third most popular personality in the USA and was asked to sing and dance for President Franklin Roosevelt.   Did you know she was only 4'9"?  Carmen died at 46 years old on the 5th August 1955 from pre-eclampsia and was buried in Rio de Janerio.
