Shirt Dress



On my wish list this year is a Shirt Dress.   These dresses were first known as "shirtwaist dresses" and were launched by Christian Dior in the 1950s as part of the "New Look"  collection.  They featured a notched collar, elbow length sleeves with a full skirt held up by wearing a crinoline.  Todays's style is much more relaxed but looks great both as workwear or for weekends.

Miss French Riviera American-born, burlesque dancer, Dorian Dennis started off wanting to be a doctor after obtaining a Batchelor of Science degree at New York University but in the 1950s decided to move into the world of burlesque.   She was known as Miss French Riviera and travelled across the USA, Canada and Europe earning up to $1,200 a week.  Sadly Dorian died at the age of 40 in Florida from cancer.
