Fifty years ago today, The Beatles performed on the Ed Sullivan Show with more than 70 million Americans tuning in to watch them. It is reported that The Beatles came to appear on the show purely by chance. Apparently Ed Sullivan came across the band while walking through Heathrow Airport towards the end of 1963 and witnessed the throngs of fans waiting for the group's arrival back into the UK following a trip to Stockholm and was enough to want him to book them on his show.
They kicked off the Show singing "All My Loving", "Til There Was You" and "She Loves You".
