Far from the Madding Crowd


I simply love Thomas Hardy's Far from the Madding Crowd and I can't wait to see the new film version which goes on release in May 2015.

In the meantime, a rare, signed copy of this book goes on auction next week at Cottees Auctions in Wareham.  It is inscribed with the words "In the cause of our defenders.  Thomas Hardy, August 1915" and is thought to have been donated as a prize to raise funds for the WW1 war effort.  The book is estimated to fetch between £200 and £300.
