56 years ago today, Johnny Cash played and recorded a live album to inmates at San Quentin Prison.  It was filmed by Granada Television and the album went gold on August 12, 1969.  A particular favourite of mine from that album is "I Walk the Line".

Singer\song-writer Hank Williams Sr (born Hiram King Williams) died this day in Oak Hill, West Virginia in 1953.   He was only 29 when he died from heart failure brought on by pills and alcohol abuse.  However,  in that short time, he was regarded as one of the most significant country music artists and  a major influence on twentieth century pop music.
