This week, Christies in Paris auctioned personal objects belonging to the great Italian couturier Elsa Schiaparelli (1890-1973) for a staggering £1,690,000.   In her day, she was a rival to Coco Chanel but unfortunately couldn't adapt to the changes in fashion following WW2 and the business closed in 1954.

However, as well as the auction, this week saw the return of the brand which was bought in 2007 by Diego Della Valle and is now in the care of womenswear designer Marco Zanini http://www.euronews.com/2014/01/22/schiaparelli-returns-to-paris/
