Local author and a favourite of mine, Thomas Hardy, died on this day in 1928.  A number of his books have been made into successful films\TV dramas including Tess of the D'Urbervilles starring Eddie Redmayne and Gemma Arterton and Alan Bates in the Mayor of Casterbridge.
