Christian Dior

On this day in 1905, the founder of one of the world's top fashion houses, Christian Dior was born in Granville, France.

He was a master at creating shapes and silhouettes and his designs tended to be fuller than the boxy, fabric-conserving shapes of that time which was due to the rationing of fabrics after the War.

Dior died at 52 whilst on holiday in Italy following a heart attack.
